Student Leadership

Holloway School offers all students from Year 9 onwards the chance to take Sports Leaders UK awards and qualifications use the medium of sport to help people to learn to lead. They learn the essential skills of leadership: communication, organisation and motivation, but in addition to this they grow in confidence and self belief. The personal journeys that Holloway Students undertake whilst learning to lead, stand them in good stead for their future careers and life itself.

Holloway School Sports leaders coach younger students from Holloway and local primary school children. Sports Leaders also organise a number of primary school Sports Days, including the Islington Primary School Athletics Championships and the Primary Top Link Festival. Holloway also hosts the Islington Sports Leaders Academy, sharing the successes and knowledge of our sports leadership model with other secondary schools in the borough.

The success of Sports Leaders at Holloway has provided a model that other subjects can use. Students at Holloway can now have the opportunity to take the following-

Foreign Language Leaders Award- the award aims to teach young people how to lead others through basic languages activities (teaching the colours or days of the week for example) by working to develop their communication, organisation and motivational skills.

Maths Leaders Award- the award aims to teach young people how to lead others through basic maths activities (teaching how to add fractions for example) by working to develop their communication, organisation and motivational skills.

Literacy Leaders Award- the award teaches leadership skills and enables successful candidates to lead small groups in simple literacy based activities (for example, teaching the basic structure of a sentence) whilst under direct supervision of their tutor.

In addition Holloway is pioneering the use of ICT Leaders.
