Building Students' Word Power
Dear Parents/ Carers,
CASL (Connecticut Association of School Librarians) state that 'The word-rich get richer while the word-poor get poorer' in their reading skills. This is a greatly important aspect of our day to day practice in Holloway School. It is a crucial part of our role to ensure that all of our students are exposed to a range of powerful words, to enhance their ability to express their ideas and hold articulate conversations and discussions.
With this in mind, attached is a document (Geoff Barton, June 2010) that contains key words that your child should learn and be encouraged to use; our students should feel confident to use these words in their subjects, as well as to spell them correctly.
We would appreciate your support in this, so please read through the vocabulary list and encourage the use of these words, as far as possible.
